Top Rated Wine Refrigerators – 155 Bottle VinoTemp Wine Cooler

There’s something about the Vinotemp wine cooler that sets it apart from virtually every other wine cooler on the market. That major difference is that Vinotemp wine coolers are made in the USA. That’s pretty much unheard of in this industry and many others these days.

Top Quality

vinotemp 155 bottleVinotemp wine coolers are top-quality, they’re handmade – one at a time – right here in the states using the highest quality components and materials. Plus, they are backed by nearly 30 years experience in the industry of manufacturing wine coolers, so it’s safe to say, you’ve got experience working on your side when you choose this brand. And the 155-Bottle Capacity Wine Cooler will give you plenty of room to store your budding collection of your favorite wines from around the world.

It’s amazing to me just how many people have become avid collectors and genuine fans of wine. And the industry as a whole has grown by leaps and bounds. Even regions that never produced wine before are getting into the game and there are some excellent wines out there at very affordable prices.

But ultimately, the one wrench in the engine of the never-ending pursuit of the pleasures of wine is storage. After all, you can’t leave your quality finds on the countertop. And putting them in the kitchen fridge can do more harm than good. Wine racks can be useful. But in most cases, it’s only a matter of time until they outgrow their usefulness as your wine collection flourishes.

The more you get into this incredible hobby, the more wine you tend to accumulate. But what are you going to do about storage? While a professionally designed and built basement wine cellar may be the ultimate solution for the most ardent of wine fans, it’s just not practical for everyone who loves to collect wine. For one thing, the kind of wine cellar that’s necessary to protect your precious cargo is probably going to cost you several thousands of dollars.

If you’ve got that kind of budget – and the perfect place to have an expertly-constructed wine cellar built for you – by all means – go for it. But if you want the next best thing – consider a wine cooler designed, engineered and hand-crafted by a company that has already built more top quality wine cellars in American than anyone else. It’s at this point where the name “Vinotemp” should soar to the top of your wish list in terms of brands.

Vinotemp makes a whole bunch of different wine coolers of varying sizes from a small and open table-top unit, right up to their massive, 155-Bottle Wine Cooler. As a starter, some people opt for those coolers that house wine in the 30-bottle range. But for those who’ve crossed the threshold and realize that wine is something they can and will enjoy for the rest of their lives – something more substantial is in order. And that’s why the Vinotemp 155-Bottle standup wine fridge is made for.

Are Vinotemp Wine Coolers Good?

What is particularly interesting about Vinotemp is the history behind their wine refrigeration units and the passion that goes into it. Vinotemp International is a pioneer in the industry and they provide a full range of wine storage solutions from manufacturing custom wine cellars to producing coolers of all sizes that are not just distributed right across the country – but around the world.

In the process of selling more than a million units, I guess any organization would learn a thing or two about what the market really wants. And with such a diverse range of wine storage solutions from small to large – and everything in between – Vinotemp is targeting everyone with more than a passing interest in wine.

Truth be told, Vinotemp makes a quality product that is good enough for the expert and easy enough for the beginner. It all begins as one develops an appreciation for the taste of quality wines. But as one’s interest and tastes widen, a whole world of possibility opens up. Small wine coolers quickly fill up. It’s at this point that the wine enthusiast needs to make a decision. Do I buy another small wine cooler and effectively double my storage capacity, or do I invest in a serious wine cooler — like the 155-Bottle Vinotemp?

Size Matters

vinotemp with drawer outThe 155 bottle Vinotemp wine refrigerator is quite big. It takes up a fair amount of space in your home. But it also provides more than enough storage for most eager wine collectors. What I urge anyone to do is to look down the road. In other words, don’t just buy a wine fridge that meets your needs today because in the coming years, as your interest in wine intensifies, your collection is only going to grow.

155 bottles is a lot of wine. So a cooler with this kind of capacity gives you plenty of space for several bottles of your personal favorites, plus plenty of room for your spouse’s favorite wines too. Oh, and there’s also the wines you want to save for dinner parties, or to give away as gifts. That leaves you tons of space for interesting new wines, recommended favorites, unique vintages, and alternatives you discover as your interest in all things wine continues to grow.

If you’re looking at purchasing this 155-bottle unit, chances are it’s not your first ever wine cooler – although it may be. You’ve probably tried a small countertop unit, or a compact, under the counter wine cooler already and now it’s time to step up to something larger and much more practical for the more serious collectors.

If you are leaning towards a smaller unit, the Edgestar CWF340DZ Wine Fridge just might be the right choice for you.

How Do I Know if This is the Right Wine Cooler For Me?

As mentioned, it’s always a wise idea to buy bigger than you need right now particularly when it comes to wine because of collecting and enjoying wine is a lifelong hobby. So even if you were thinking of a cooler in the 30-60 bottle range – you may want to also consider this one. The more you get into the pleasures of pursuing and enjoying this age-old luxury – the more wine you tend to accumulate. But if you don’t have adequate storage it can be frustrating, to say the least.

close up of the vinotemp 155 bottle coolerNot only do Vinotemp wine coolers look terrific, they’re built with protecting and preserving your wines in mind. This includes using UV tinted glass doors since light is one of the biggest problems in that it can damage wine. In fact, light, heat, and oxygen are the 3 big problem areas that need to be avoided at all costs when it comes to storing wine.

Your wine cooler with UV tinted glass helps to protect the product inside. The exact temperature is regulated by you. But the Vinotemp wine cooler ensures that you’re in the proper range, so your wine will store properly and age gracefully, instead of spoiling. One of the ways oxygen can enter a bottle of wine is when the cork gets too dry and a pinhole develops. That’s why wine is always stored on its side – to help keep the cork wet at all times. With ready to drink wine and screw-on caps, it’s not really an issue. Holding onto a wine that’s ready for consumption won’t improve its flavor. In fact, it can have an opposite effect.

If you’re looking for a long-term solution that keeps your wine in ideal condition, while allowing you to house and display a large collection of wines (that in essence, represents the fruit of your collecting labor) this might just be the one for you.

Vinotemp has the right storage unit for practically any need. They’ve used the experience gained from the very start back in 1985 when they began making their wine coolers from their Los Angeles-based shop. If you’re looking for something small, you might prefer the Edgestar or Whynter wine cooler. But if you’re passionate about wine and you see building a collection of wine as a long-term interest – we recommend the Vinotemp 155-Bottle Wine Cooler because it will meet your needs for years to come.

Wherever you are on the scale, Vinotemp probably has a cooler of some sort in the category. While they offered a varied collection of fridges for wines and for many different types of wine fans, the 155-Bottle version is likely their best.

Any Catches?

What’s surprising (and a little disappointing) to many people is the warranty. Considering that these are made in the USA, one would expect to get a longer warranty than what’s offered. It doesn’t make a lot of sense. But then manufacturer warranties rarely do.

It offers an attractive, seamless stainless steel door on a black cabinet. The interior of the storage unit features black racking with stainless steel wire shelving and an interior light. As for size, it measures 23 1/2 inches wide by 26 1/2 inches deep by 70 inches high.

In Summary

Overall, the Vinotemp 155-bottle dual zone wine cooler is an impressive appliance that adds class and elegance to most any room. It’s a premium wine fridge for the fairly serious wine fan. With an easy to use touchscreen control panel and attractive blue LED readout, anyone can manage a growing collection of wine with this quality model.  Check out the latest pricing on

EdgeStar Wine Refrigerator Door Open

EdgeStar CWF40DZ Wine Fridge – 34 Bottle Dual Zone

Ready for a sizable wine cooler that can store both red wine and white – at the proper temperatures? This 34 bottle Edgestar might be the answer you’ve been looking for. It features an elegant design – a jet-black housing, complete with stainless steel trimmed door. The inside features wood-trimmed wire wine racks, plus cool LED lighting. I’m quite certain that this wine cooler would look pretty slick in any room of your home.

If you already know this is is the fridge for you – head on over here to to get a great price.

Freestanding Wine Fridge

EdgeStarCWF40DZ Wine FridgeThe Edgestar CWF340DZ is a freestanding wine refrigerator. This means that it’s designed as a stand alone fixture – kind of like a dining room buffet and hutch combo, or a coffee table. It’s not designed to be sandwiched between a kitchen refrigerator and pantry because it requires plenty of air circulation.

Unlike some models in its class, This one has a built-in security lock. It also boasts dual cooling zones – one for red wine and one for white – which is ideal for a lot of new and intermediate wine fans. It’s also got internal LED lighting and a reversible door.

A reversible door is a huge plus. Why? Because if you don’t pay attention to such detail as the swing of the door – you could be in for a major disappointment with other models that don’t offer this flexible option.

The EdgeStar Wine Fridge allows you to easily reverse the door by changing sides. Even if you’re as inept as me – have no fear. It’s easier than you might think. This allows you to swing the door left or right – depending on what’s more convenient in your chosen location.

It’s easier than you think to reverse the door on the front. All you have to do is change the handle and mount the door on the side you want. Here’s a klutz tip of the day for you: Peel back the rubber on the inside of the door to find the predrilled holes. Use these to screw the handle on in the correct position. Once you’ve got it in place, simply slip the rubber portion back – and you’re done. Easy peasy.

The EdgeStar comes with a one-year parts warranty. That doesn’t matter a whole lot to people who aren’t very handy with tools. We just want the damned thing to do what it’s supposed to do and never break down. But of course, nothing lasts forever and these warranties aren’t much good in the end. What people like you and I are most interested in is finding a good quality wine cooler that will meet our specific needs.

Wine Temperature

Dual Temperature IndicatorThe whole purpose of having a wine cooler or fridge is to keep your wines at the correct temperature. You want them just right for maximum protection of your fine wines and a flavor experience that is everything it’s supposed to be. If you don’t get it right – it can ruin a wine.

But having your wine at the ideal temperature and storage is no guarantee that it’s going to taste perfect. There are other factors like storage during travel to the store and warehousing – before you even got you hands on the bottle. Nobody knows for sure how it’s all going to unfold until you uncork the wine and get that first smell and taste.

Size Does Matter

This freestanding Edgestar wine cooler is a useful appliance for many buyers. It can hold as many as 34 standard size bottles. Where people run into difficulty in storing their wine is when they get into bottles of a slightly different size. This seems to happen no matter how carefully you shop. Manufacturers have started to make adjustments, but most coolers on the market these days are designed principally for the regular, everyday, standard-size bottle.

What People Most Appreciate About The EdgeStar

Customers appreciate that the Edgestar looks classy and elegant with its stainless steel trim door, black casing, and the solid wood fronts on the slide-out wire racking. Add to that some attractive LED lighting and you’ve got an impressive looking wine fridge.

What’s more is that you can use this cooler to store any of your wines – and it does so reliably well. With two separately controlled temperature zones, you can chill your white to a greater degree for optimal enjoyment while at the same time maintain a temperature that’s closer to room temperature for your favorite reds. Proper storage and serving temperatures make a huge difference in results – even though individual preferences may vary somewhat.

If you’ve ever tried messing around with your own mini wine cellar, undoubtedly one of the greatest difficulties you encountered was maintaining that constant temperature. The Edgestar solves that problem by maintaining a temperature range of between 41 to 54°F for the lower zone and a temperature range of 54 to 64°F in the upper zone.

What’s most impressive is its ability to maintain an even cooling. You won’t find hotspots or cooler zones that practically freeze the contents as you might in a standard refrigerator. Powerful air circulation ensures even distribution of the air that’s the right temperature every time.

The LED display control allows you to easily set and monitor your wine fridge. You can pretty well set it and forget it. But it’s a good idea to check your temperature settings occasionally, just to be on the safe side.

The Edgestar CWF340DZ weighs in at about 94 pounds, empty. Loaded to the hilt, it could easily be over 300 pounds, so you won’t want to be moving it around. As for overall dimensions, the Edgestar is 33 1/8 inches high by 19 7/16 inches wide by 23 1/16 inches deep. Just remember to allow plenty of space on all sides to keep your cooler functioning as it should.

You can use this wine fridge as a built-in that’s part o your kitchen cabinets or your bar area. However, it’s important to leave adequate space on all sides and especially the back for proper ventilation. So the typical “built-in” look is not recommended. You need to allow lots of room for the warmer air that’s generated by the motor to vent properly. If you miss this important point – your cooler will burn out sooner than it should.

Shelves are not adjustable in this unit but they are removable. And all of them pull out partially for easier loading. Keep in mind that once you remove a shelf ,you’re losing that storage space. It’s not so easy to pull the shelf out when it’s fully loaded. That’s one of the often heard complaints when you look at some of the other Edgestar wine cooler reviews online. It’s a small problem, but nevertheless, something that could be improved by the manufacturer.

There’s no doubt about it, this is an impressive looking unit and I’m sure that’s one reason for its popularity. Turn the kitchen lights on low, or shut them off entirely and flip on the blue LED light on your new Edgestar – and enjoy it fully – preferably while sipping a glass of your favorite vino.

How Many of Each Bottle/How Do The Dual Zones Work?

EdgeStar Wine Refrigerator Door OpenHow many bottles you can fit in each section of the Edgstar CWF 340DZ? Well, it depends. It depends on the size of the bottles themselves, but as a general rule you should be able to easily fit about 12 bottles of white in that zone and about 18 bottles of red and the other zone. The bottom zone is larger and meant for red wine. I suspect that this design is based on marketplace preference: more wine drinkers seem to favor red wine over white.

Temperature fluctuations are normal. No wine cooler is going to maintain an exact temperature straight through. There’s a high and a low and it stays within that range. When the temperature rises beyond that point, the fan kicks in and cools it down again.

It’s not advised that you use the Edgestar wine cooler in a garage or shed. Doing so may expose your wine to higher temperatures and that’s never a good thing. You also want to maintain a comfortable temperature so that the wine cooler doesn’t have to work as hard.

Edgestar has had some problems in the shipping of their wine coolers. Wine coolers are a delicate appliance and are easily damaged. So when shipping long distances – as is the case with every Edgestar, since they are made overseas, “shipping rash” often occurs. This is not a big issue, as long as you detect it early enough and report it to your seller.

It becomes a major problem when you’re renovating a room and you take delivery of your wine cooler yet don’t uncrate it until the renovations are complete. That’s not when you want to discover a defect that requires sending the fridge back for replacement. If you’re too late – you’re out of luck.

On the upside, it looks like Edgestar has taken action to improve the quality of their packaging materials. This should minimize future complaints.

Who Sells EdgeStar Wine Coolers and Are They Any Good?

One of my pet peeves is reading reviews that are highly negative about a product and yet the complaint has little to do with the product design or functionality itself. It’s a complaint based on something that happened in shipping, or an encounter with a customer service rep who gets to hear it all day long.

My contention is that people want to read about products and how good or bad they are. Shipping problems can occur at any time, with any brand, in virtually any line of products. But it all comes down to the product.
