Star Wars is developed around three sets of trilogies. Initially released back in 1977, the first trilogy set the world on fire, and George Lucas quickly became a household name. The original actors were Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Harrison Ford as Han Solo, and the incomparable Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia. The three set out to make history, and since then, there have been eight subsequent movies in the larger three-set trilogy. Needless to say, enough Star Wars to fill up any collector’s basement.
But the good news with Star Wars is you don’t need to be a hard-core collector to enjoy the movie around holiday times. Star Wars themed Christmas trees have been growing in popularity. The number of characters is endless, and who wouldn’t want C-3PO accompanying you on Christmas morning? In this post, we’ll provide some pointers on what you need to get your tree up to Star Wars standard and then run through some must have products.

How Do I Create a Star Wars Christmas Tree?

The first thing to consider before creating a Star Wars Christmas tree is the mood in the home. If you’re single, who cares what your cat or pet iguana thinks about this idea; have at it! But if you have a spouse and kids, tread carefully. First, you don’t find a lot of Star Wars haters out there, but going full Star Wars theme for Christmas isn’t for everyone. Know your partner and kids, start prepping them in October with fun pictures of Star Wars-themed Christmas’ and then make a decision come the 15th of December.
Once you have the go-ahead, we recommend sticking with the general colors of the “light and dark side.” Those would be red, silver, black, and blue. You essentially want to keep these colors constant both from an adornment perspective but also the lighting. Speaking of lighting, here is where this gets fun. Yoda, with a Christmas hat strewn multiple times across a 5-foot cord, is as cool as it gets.
After you figure out your lighting, it’s time to pull the trigger on some ornaments. The go-to ornaments are the main characters we all know. But we’d suggest digging a bit deeper and making Jar Jar Binks, for example, front and center when someone first sets their eyes on the tree. He’s an odd duck, Jar Jar, and that will get your neighbors and friends talking. A gold millennium falcon is a sure-fire winner, as are multiple sand cruisers and aircraft.
But don’t take our word for it; the following eleven decoration ideas are winners for any tree.
The Coolest Star Wars Christmas Decoration Ideas
Hallmark Christmas Ornament, Star Wars Chewbacca with Bowcaster

While this Chewy ornament is a fan favorite, the Hallmark Store features a range of figurines perfect to spice up any Christmas tree or fireside mantel. Made of resin, if you’re a loyal fan of Han Solo’s co-pilot, Chewbacca, we can’t think of a better fit. The lovable Wookie comes with his signature shoulder-strap belt and bowcaster. Chewy did a lot of damage with that bowcaster, and Star Wars fans will be thrilled to see it front and center.
This ornament measures 2.02 x 3.71 x 1.37 inches and comes with a handy hanger attachment affixed to Chewy’s head. Weighing just 3.98 ounces, you’re not going to suffer from that embarrassing slagging tree branch that brings holiday shame to quite a few celebratory parties. Don’t be that guy or gal this December with a saggy tree branch and Chewy scraping the floor.

Star Wars Kurt S. Adler 10-Light R2D2 Light Set

Could there be anything cuter than mini R2D2s hanging from your tree? Of course not, and while an excellent fit for Christmas and Star Wars fans of all ages, this light set can be hung year-round, no problem. If you have a party room in the house that attracts good vibes and Star Wars cheer, throw this set up and watch your social rating rise through the roof!
This set features ten lights at a total length of 138 inches. The mini D2s are evenly spaced (12 inches), and the Kurt Adler set includes four spare bulbs and two fuses. This is an officially-licensed Star Wars product, so you can be sure the D2s have all the same characteristics you loved while watching and playing with this little guy. R2D2 might be one of the most beloved non-humans ever to grace the big screen.

Star Wars Official Return of the Jedi Bauble Pack

We’ve arrived at the timeless Christmas piece – the bubble ornament. There isn’t anything more Christmas than the hanging bubble ball, and while this pack could have kept it simple and painted Star Wars figureheads on the balls, the artwork is at another level.
One of the most popular balls in this Bauble pack is Jabba the Hut. Jabba was a contentious character, not overly liked but still popular with fans. In this set, he is drooling uncontrollably across the ornament ball, something sure to initiate a reaction from Uncle Frank when he shows up on the 24th. The pack is made of tin and comes with six ornaments. It’s more than enough to kickstart your most unique Christmas ever.

Hallmark Keepsake Christmas Ornament 2020, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back

Another classic from Hallmark, this time they mix in some real craftsmanship with The Empire Strikes Back X-Wing Starfighter on Dagobah ship. Remember this one? Of course you do, how could you forget this timeless fighter jet, the moment when Yoda hoisted Luke Skywalker’s downed ship from a swampy bog. That was the point when you knew Yoda had more to him than simply dwelling in swamps and talking strangely.
This ship can be hung from the tree, but it comes in a fabulous looking box which alone can be displayed on a shelf with the ship on top, year-round. The ornament is lead-free and measures 4.83” W x 1.77” H x 5.77” D. Again, pairing this Hallmark Star Wars decorative ornament with others is an excellent way to round out the tree. Your neighbors might copy you, but that just confirms you were on to something from the beginning.

Star Wars Chewbacca Coffee Mug, 20 Ounce

We won’t spoil it for you, although many online sites communicate exactly what Chewy is saying on this mug, no surprises about it. But put it this way, this is one of the funnier Chewy moments you’ll find. The ceramic red, 20 fluid ounce gem is perfect for coffee, tea, hot cocoa, or even some egg-nog. It’s yet another year-round classic but certainly should be front and center from December 1st to at least January 2nd.
The Star Wars logo is on one side while Chewy and his funny statement grace the other. Ok, enough with the mystery; remember all of the things you hated receiving when you were a kid for Christmas? One of those things was socks. The image of Chewy is him roaring mad and exclaiming, “Socks Again!” Sorry, we couldn’t resist, it’s a joyous mug.

Gemmy Whirl-a-Motion Christmas Led Star Wars Light Show Projector

There’s a lot going on with this title. Here’s what we know – this is a projector that beams out images of different Star Wars characters. Here’s why it’s unique – the projector rotates, which means you’ve got a literal party on your wall of Storm Troopers, Skywalkers, Vadars, and more. This is Christmas on steroids!
The best thing about the projector is its size. Weighing in at literally nothing (one pound), the assembly height, width, and length are all just 10 inches. You’ve likely seen some big projectors in your day, cumbersome and difficult to move. Nothing could be farther from that here.

Gemmy 3’ Airblown Yoda with Santa Hat Star Wars Christmas Inflatable

The hits keep coming with this one-of-a-kind inflatable Yoda. And not only is the blow-up Yoda a hit in itself, but the little goblin is also sporting a candy cane and a Christmas hat. The inflated dimensions are 36” H x 39” W x 23” D, and the set-up couldn’t be more straightforward as you blow Yoda up, set him down, and let the compliments arrive.
Another cool feature is you can plug Yoda in and watch him light up. Place this on the porch and drive your neighbors bonkers, or keep it in the kid’s room and enjoy a lit up Yoda throughout December. Deflating for easy storage makes the teardown process seamless, but the kids might fight you on that.

Princess Leia Rebel Rebel Christmas Ornament

Beloved by all, it’s hard to find anyone with a bad word to say about Princess Leia. She was the consummate Princess to all and went through some really trying moments! This cool mash-up ornament with Leia and David Bowie’s Rebel design is truly one-of-a-kind. The details are extraordinary, and the woodwork is first-class.
Some online reviewers mentioned they have this ornament hanging from the rearview mirror when it’s not on their Christmas tree. We vigorously second this idea. The Christmas motif is not over the top, so you could theoretically get away with sporting this Leia year-round in the car, no problem.

Hallmark Keepsake Christmas Ornament 2019 Death Star Tree Topper

The ultimate tree topper for any Christmas tree, Hallmark keeps it moving with the Death Star rounding out the top of your tree. At first glance, this looks like a moon, but once you key in on the details, it’s clear this is the Death Star in all its glory. Included are light and sound coupled with a remote control to keep the whole scene under your control. One push of the remote and you’ve got “The Imperial March” emanating from the top of your tree!
This topper is made of plastic and designed by Orville Wilson. Wilson has worked on several Hallmark products and is no stranger to creating pieces collectors and fans alike really enjoy. Additionally, just because you see the date 2019 in the title doesn’t mean this is out-dated. The Death Star will always be the Death Star, and this ornament will continue to shine for decades to come.

Star Wars Darth Vader Knit Hanging Christmas Stocking

No Star Wars themed Christmas is complete without stockings. Stockings were once reserved for those secondary gifts like candy canes or little sweets. They then slowly expanded in size to receive underwear, CDs, figurines, or if you were really lucky, iPhones. Well, this stocking is in line with the latter, a large receptacle capable of handling smartphones with ease and even a small tablet.
Measuring 20 inches diagonally, this stocking features none other than Vadar’s menacing mug. But it’s far from a dark and scary sock, mainly due to the Christmas spirit design that is peppered throughout. In fact, Vadar has never looked so friendly!

Star Wars Christmas Tree Decoration Tree Skirt Mat

The big mistake most make with Christmas trees is getting too caught up in the ornaments. By the time they arrive at the bottom of the tree, they’ve run out of steam. The problem with this is your tree only looks 3/4th of the way complete as a result. It’s akin to turning in a paper without concluding thoughts or leaving the house without shoes or socks on. Don’t be that guy or gal this Christmas.
This Star Wars Christmas Tree Skirt Mat is the perfect icing on the cake for your Star Wars themed Christmas. Made of brushed fabric and a soft and plushy material, this mat can handle trees as large as 9 feet, no problem. The design features all your favorite characters on one mat with the Star Wars logo prominently displayed at the base.

To Sum It Up…
If you’re wondering how you’re going to prep the family for this impending Star Wars Christmas theme, that’s good. As we mentioned earlier, don’t take this lightly. Springing Chewy ornaments and R2D2 lighting without a little groundwork is reckless behavior. But the decorations we reviewed here are top-notch quality and design, so we’re relatively sure your significant other and the kids shouldn’t have any issues.
Do remember to give the entire Christmas tree your attention. Ornaments and lighting are, of course, paramount, but a mat on the bottom to round everything out is a must. The same thing goes for your tree topper. Best of luck this Christmas with your Star Wars theme – it’s a consistent winner and one that never gets old!
